Getting up and running with Bloc takes less than two minutes. You don’t need to download anything — open a browser, create an account, and your first note is ready to write. This guide walks you through sign-up, creating a note, using the editor, and optionally installing Bloc as a home-screen app.
1

Sign up for a Bloc account

Go to bloc.so in any modern browser and click Get Started. On the sign-up page, enter your email address and choose a password (at least 8 characters, including one special symbol). Click Sign Up to create your account.
If you already have an account, click Sign In instead and enter your credentials to continue.
2

Create your first note

Once you’re signed in, you’ll land on the notes list. To create a new note:
  • Desktop: Click the New Note button in the sidebar.
  • Mobile: Tap the circular + (New Note) button in the bottom-right of the screen.
A blank note opens immediately with a title field at the top and an empty content area below it. Type a title for your note, then press Enter or Tab (or tap the content area on mobile) to move into the body.
3

Add content with the block editor

The body of your note is made up of blocks. Start typing to create a paragraph, or press / (forward slash) on any blank line to open the block picker. Choose from:
  • Text blocks — Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Quote, Callout
  • List blocks — Bullet List, Ordered List, Todo List
  • Rich blocks — Code Block, Table, Image, Divider
Select a block type from the menu (or keep typing to filter the list) and press Enter to insert it. You can also select text to reveal the bubble formatting menu — apply bold, italic, highlights, links, and more without leaving the keyboard.
Grab the ⠿ drag handle that appears to the left of any block to reorder it within your note.
4

Install Bloc on your device (optional)

Bloc is a Progressive Web App, which means you can add it to your home screen and open it just like any other app — no app store required.
  • iOS/Safari: Tap the Share button, then tap Add to Home Screen.
  • Android/Chrome: Tap the menu, then tap Add to Home Screen or Install App.
  • Desktop Chrome/Edge: Click the install icon in the address bar and confirm.
After installation, Bloc opens in its own window and works offline from the start. See the full Installation guide for step-by-step instructions for each platform.
Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) from anywhere in the app to open the search palette. You can search across all your notes by keyword, then narrow results by date or tag — without lifting your hands off the keyboard.
Bloc saves every change automatically to your device as you type. Your notes are safe even if you lose your internet connection mid-session. When you’re back online, Bloc syncs everything to the cloud in the background.
