work, ideas, or recipes β and then filter your whole library by that tag in seconds. This page explains how tags work and how to get the most out of them.
What tags are
A tag is a short text label you attach to a note to identify its category or topic. Tags in Bloc follow a few simple rules:- One tag per note. Each note can hold exactly one tag at a time.
- Up to 50 characters. Tag names are plain text and cannot exceed 50 characters.
- Optional. Notes without a tag work perfectly fine β tagging is never required.
Add a tag to a note
1
Open the note
Open the note you want to tag by clicking it in the sidebar.
2
Click Add tagβ¦
Below the title, click the Add tag⦠input field.
3

Type the tag name β up to 50 characters. Tag names are case-sensitive, so
Work and work are treated as different tags.4
Press Enter to confirm
Press Enter (or Done on mobile) to attach the tag. The tag appears as a chip next to the input field.
Edit or remove a tag
To change a tag, remove the current one first and then type a new one:- Click the Γ on the tag chip beside the title (or focus the chip with the keyboard and press Backspace or Delete). The tag is removed immediately.
- Click Add tag⦠and type the new tag name, then press Enter to confirm.
How tags appear in the sidebar
Every tagged note shows its tag as a small badge on the note card in the sidebar. Untagged notes show no badge. When you filter by a tag (see below), only notes matching that tag are displayed.Filter by tag
You can narrow your sidebar or search results to a specific tag in two places:- Sidebar filter bar β click the filter icon to reveal tag chips for every tag in your library. Click a tag chip to show only notes with that tag. Click All tags to clear the filter.
- Search palette β open search with Cmd+K / Ctrl+K, click the filter icon (sliders), and choose a tag from the Tag section. Combine it with a date filter for even more precise results.
Tags sync across all your devices along with your note content. When you add or change a tag on one device, the update appears on your other devices after the next sync.
