Most problems in Bloc have a quick fix. Work through the steps for your issue below — they’re ordered from the simplest check to the more involved solutions. If none of the steps resolve your problem, reach out to Bloc support for further help.
If a problem persists after following the steps below, contact Bloc support. Include a brief description of what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Screenshots are always helpful.
Bloc saves every change locally first, then syncs to the cloud when you’re online. If you notice a note isn’t syncing, work through these steps:
1

Check your internet connection

Make sure your device is connected to the internet. Open another website or app to confirm your connection is working. If you’re offline, Bloc will queue the change and sync automatically once you reconnect — no action needed.
2

Check the sync status indicator

Look for the sync badge near the top of the editor. It shows whether your note is saved locally, syncing, or synced to the cloud. If it shows “offline,” your change is queued and will sync when connectivity is restored.
3

Confirm you're signed in

Open Settings and verify that your account email is displayed under your profile. If you’re not signed in, sign in again — your locally-saved notes will sync automatically afterwards.
4

Reload the app

Close the Bloc tab and reopen it, or close and relaunch the installed PWA. This forces a fresh sync attempt for any queued notes.
When you paste or insert an image and it fails to upload, Bloc inserts a placeholder so you don’t lose your place in the note.
1

Check your internet connection

Image uploads require an active internet connection — unlike text edits, images cannot be queued for offline upload. Verify that you’re online before trying again.
2

Check your plan's storage limit

Free accounts have 200 MB of sync storage and Pro accounts have 10 GB. If you’re close to your limit, delete unused notes or upgrade to Pro, then try the upload again.
3

Try uploading again

Delete the placeholder text that Bloc inserted, then paste or insert the image a second time. If the connection is stable, the upload should succeed.
4

Check the image file size

Very large image files may time out on a slow connection. Try resizing or compressing the image before uploading.
If the “Add to Home Screen” or install prompt doesn’t appear, check the following:
1

Use a supported browser

PWA installation is supported in Chrome (desktop and Android), Microsoft Edge (desktop), and Safari (iOS and macOS). Firefox does not support PWA installation. Switch to a supported browser and try again.
2

Make sure you're on HTTPS

PWAs can only be installed from secure (HTTPS) connections. Confirm the address bar shows a padlock icon and begins with https://.
3

Clear your browser cache

Stale cached data can block the install prompt. In your browser settings, clear the cache for the Bloc site, then reload the page and wait a moment for the prompt to reappear.
4

Look for the install icon manually

On Chrome desktop, the install icon (a small screen with a download arrow) appears in the address bar on the right. Click it to install. On Chrome Android, tap the three-dot menu and choose Add to Home Screen.
If Bloc shows a loading spinner and never progresses to the notes list, local storage data may have become corrupted.
1

Wait a moment and reload

Sometimes a slow network causes a brief delay. Wait 10–15 seconds, then press Cmd/Ctrl + R or tap the browser’s reload button.
2

Clear site data for Bloc

Open your browser’s Settings, navigate to Privacy and Security (or Site Settings), find Bloc in the list of sites, and choose Clear data or Delete site data. This removes any cached app data that may have become corrupted.
Clearing site data removes any notes that haven’t yet synced to the cloud. Make sure you’re signed in and have a working internet connection before clearing data — this ensures your cloud-backed notes can be restored on reload.
3

Sign out and sign back in

Go to Settings → Sign Out, then sign back in with your credentials. Bloc will re-download your notes from the cloud and rebuild the local cache.
If a note is missing from your list, it was most likely deleted — either intentionally or by accident.
1

Check version history

Open the note (if you can still find it) and click the clock icon to view Version History. You can restore a previous snapshot of the note from there.
2

Wait for offline changes to sync

If you deleted a note while offline, the deletion is queued locally and sent to the server once you reconnect. If the note was deleted on another device while you were offline, it will disappear from your local list after you sync.
3

Search by a keyword you remember

Press Cmd/Ctrl + K and type a word or phrase from the missing note. If the note still exists locally, it will appear in the results.
Deleted notes cannot be recovered once the deletion has synced to the cloud. Version history only applies to notes that still exist.
The slash menu opens when you type / at the start of a new block or after a space. If it isn’t appearing, try the following:
1

Position the cursor correctly

The slash menu only triggers when / is the first character on a new line, or when it follows a space. Click at the beginning of an empty line and type / to open the menu.
2

Use the + button on mobile

On mobile devices, the desktop slash menu is replaced by the block picker sheet. Tap the + button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen to open it.
3

Type to filter results

If the menu opened but you don’t see the block you want, start typing its name (for example, table or code) to filter the list.
1

Open the sign-in page

Navigate to the Bloc sign-in page. If you’re already signed in as a different account, sign out first via Settings → Sign Out.
2

Click Forgot password

Below the password field, click the Forgot password? link. Enter your account email address and submit the form.
3

Check your email

Bloc will send a password-reset link to your email address. Check your spam or junk folder if it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes. Click the link and follow the on-screen instructions to set a new password.
Very large notes — particularly those containing many high-resolution images — can be slower to load and type in. This is a browser memory limitation rather than a Bloc bug.
1

Split the note into multiple notes

Move sections of the note into separate, smaller notes. You can tag them with the same label to keep them grouped together and easy to find.
2

Compress or reduce large images

Resize or compress images before inserting them. Smaller image files make the note lighter and the editor more responsive.
3

Close other browser tabs

Freeing up browser memory by closing unused tabs can noticeably improve editor performance on lower-end devices.
4

Use a desktop browser for heavy notes

Desktop browsers generally handle large documents better than mobile browsers. If you regularly work with large notes, consider doing so on a desktop device.
